Plaxpot Plasma Pen

The Plaxpot Pen uses a thin needle which never touches the skin. Instead, the needle is super heated, causing an arc of ionized atmospheric gas (plasma) to sublimate the skin. Sublimation is the process of turning a solid instantly into gas, so no heat is transferred to surrounding normal tissue. The sublimation of the skin causes skin tightening with no bleeding, no damage to surrounding normal tissue and just a few days of down time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas can be treated?

Any area with loose skin, lines, or wrinkles can be treated. Common areas on the face are around the eyes, forehead, and around the mouth. Loose neck skin can also be treated with the Plasma Pen. Stretch marks and loose skin around the belly button following pregnancy or weight loss is another area that benefits from plasma pen.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on the thickness of the skin and the amount of excess skin present. Fine lines in thin skin typically require only one treatment. Deeper lines in thicker skin may require up to three treatments. Treatments in the same area can be repeated at 4 to 6 week intervals for best results.

How long does a treatment take?

Typically 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area to be treated.

Does it hurt?

A local anaesthetic cream is applied for 30 minutes prior to treatment to minimize any discomfort. You may feel warmth in places and there may be a mild “sunburn” or tingling sensation afterwards, but this usually resolves within a day.

What are the risks of the treatment?

There have been occasional reports of temporary hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin), but no other adverse events have been reported. However, with any procedure involving the skin, there is always the possibility of scarring or infection.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Following treatment, tiny dark brown spots or crusts are evident on the skin. Swelling is common and may last up to a week depending on the area treated. Swelling can be quite significant around the eyes. The brown spots flake off over the following week as the skin heals beneath them. It is important to keep the area clean and dry and protected from sunlight and UV light to prevent uneven pigmentation as the area recovers.

What is the after care regimen?

Keep the area clean and dry. Do not rub the area or try to remove the brown crusts, let them fall off on their own to minimize the risk of infection, scarring, or pigmentation. Sunscreen is mandatory daily for 6 months following treatment.

What about down time?

You may have swelling for up to a week, especially around the eyes. The brown spots, or crusts, are present for about a week.
